Eve is a fully handmade, handsewn leather vase created for Frankenstein, an exhibition by Tokonoma. Constructed from horse culatta and carefully shaped and stitched by hand, each piece retains the natural scars, grain and irregularities of the hide. Designed as a vessel for new life, the leather gradually develops its own patina as flowers are placed and removed, leaving behind stains and traces of their existence. No two pieces are alike, each carrying its own marks, character and history.

About
Eve is a collection of handmade vases created for Frankenstein, an exhibition by Tokonoma. Crafted from horse culatta, a leather once belonging to something living, each vase transforms the material into a vessel for new life. Available in Natural, Spiegel and Black, each colourway carries its own character while retaining the scars, grain and imperfections of the original hide.
As flowers and items enter and leave the vessel, they leave behind stains, marks and traces of their existence. Over time, each vase develops its own patina, carrying the memory of everything it has held. Like the Creature, Eve continues to exist, accumulating experience and changing with everything that comes before it.

Horse culatta carries the scars, grain, and irregularities of the hide. Flower water and contact with stems will leave marks — these become part of Eve’s history rather than damage.
Care & maintenance
- Avoid prolonged soaking; empty and dry the vessel after use with water.
- If damp, allow the leather to air dry naturally away from direct heat.
- Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight when not in use.
- Wipe gently with a dry cloth; avoid harsh cleaners.
